I have a javelina skull (my first big game kill) that I keep in my bedroom. Over the years it's been getting kind of greasy again and I figure it needs some degreasing. Would just soaking it in some Dawn detergent water and washing it a bit suffice? The bobcat skull I found recently has come along quite nicely but it also needs some bleaching, or something, and I was wondering your thoughts on using bleach. I've heard bleach can damage a skull but I've used it a few times (soak the skull for a short while (15-30 minutes?) and then take it out) and everything seems OK. However, teeth often get damaged, chipped or weakened during my cleaning process and I'm trying to figure out if it's the bleach (or just boiling) that does that. While on the subject, I took some photos of my "curiosity shelf" (where these two skulls reside) and am including them here. Most of my skins/skulls/etc. are elsewhere, but these are a few things that have happened to wind up on my bedroom shelf. Some are furhidebone and some are not- I hope that's Ok. ( Read more... )

It's hard to pick from among so many great moments this year, but I particularly LOVED when GACKT appeared twice on VS ARASHI. Because if GACKT's my fave idol, ARASHI is my fave group! Not only did GACKT's appearance win one of the highest ratings for the show this year, it showed an easy-going side of our Gacchan to Arashi fans, making him more approachable and more love able, if that's possible. And if Ohno's response to GACKT giving him a ring for his birthday is anything to go by, we'll see more of this particular 'Team Arashi + 1'. (post your fave GACKT moments this year!)

Weird I don't know what update. Remember a few months ago when I posted about that little snake? Precisely this snake. Hmm cute little guy eh? Well a week ago I went to grab my duffel bag under my bed and it was dried out under there. o.o; I honestly don't know how it go under there cause I let him go out in the bush and it's quite a ways from the back door to my room. Either it magically teleported after it died or the little dog brought it in. I'm going to go with the dog option.

So My friend's grandson shot an elk and he's bringing me back the hooves. I'm not 100% sure how much leg skin they'll be including with the feet but they're storing it in their freezer for me until I can pick them up. What do I need to do to preserve them? Can I just dry out the hooves and keep them as is? funny story too: My husband was the one talking with our friend on the phone. I told him to ask about the antlers. After he got off the phone my husband told me there weren't any antlers because apparently it wasn't an elk but a cow.... I had to explain to him that a Cow is a female elk :) hehe Rockstar husbands don't know anything about animals (unless they are Ted Nugent!)
